A fault with the signalling system between Purley and East Croydon means some lines are blocked. As a result, trains may be delayed or revised.

Southern trains which run between Caterham / Tattenham Corner and London Bridge will not stop at stations between Purley and East Croydon, in the direction towards London.
Trains towards Brighton and the coast will continue to call as scheduled but may be subject to some knock-on delays.
If you are travelling now, your journey may take up to 20 minutes longer than usual.
Thameslink trains which run between Three Bridges and Bedford will not stop at South Croydon in the direction towards London.
If you are travelling from Purley Oaks or South Croydon, in the direction towards East Croydon / London, please instead travel to Purley and change there for a service in the return direction to your destination.
If you are travelling to Purley Oaks or South Croydon on a train towards London, please instead travel to East Croydon, then change for a return service which will still call at these stations.

The rail network is designed so that if a signal stops working, trains will stop before they reach it. Whilst this issue is ongoing, the train crew will stop at the affected signal and contact the signalling centre to confirm their location. At this point, the signaller will verbally authorise the driver to continue towards the next signal. This process adds time to every train's journey, leading to delays and disruption
