A fault with the signalling system means some lines are blocked. As a result, trains running between Haywards Heath and Brighton / Lewes may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.
Disruption is expected until 09:30.
Customer Advice
A signalling problem at Brighton is causing disruption to a number of trains to & from this station, particularly Thameslink and Gatwick Express services to & from London.Â
A further signalling problem and a level crossing fault are causing disruption in the Plumpton area, affecting Southern services between Lewes and Haywards Heath.
Some trains will be delayed at short notice, and others may be cancelled, revised to call at fewer stations, or terminated before they get to the area.
A few trains may be diverted, running between Brighton and London via Lewes, instead of via Burgess Hill, but these trains will be delayed by the signalling issues at Plumpton.
If there is an alternative route in your area, you may wish to use this.

Can you tell me more about the incident?Â
Network Rail have advised that a track circuit fault has occurred near Brighton station, which means the signalling system is detecting the presence of trains on the line when there are none in place.
Track circuits are electrical devices which usually detect and monitor the passage of trains. This means that as a failsafe, the signalling system will not allow a set of points to be moved, meaning trains cannot run into and out of some platforms at this station.Â
Response staff are attending as quickly as possible.
Further to this, another track circuit problem is affecting trains heading south-east through Plumpton, and level crossing problems are causing delays in both directions through this station. Staff will also be attending this fault.
