Can you tell me more about the incident?
A fault with track circuit equipment is causing delays at Rochester Bridge Junction, which is between Rochester and Strood. Track circuits are electronic devices used by the signalling system to detect and monitor the passage of trains.
When a track circuit fails, train drivers need to stop before reaching the section of track in question, and then they need to gain verbal permission to proceed (usually at slower speeds). This process leads to delays.
Network Rail are responsible for track circuits and they are dealing with the issue, but it is likely that this can only be done after the close of service tonight, due to the type of work which is necessary.
