A tunnel has been closed for safety reasons between Blackburn and Bolton, blocking all lines between the stations. As a result, trains may be cancelled or diverted via an alternative route between Blackburn and Manchester.
Disruption is expected until 10:00.

Manchester Victoria to Clitheroe services will divert via an alternative route (Todmorden) and will not be able to call at any advertised stations between Manchester Victoria - Bolton - Blackburn.
Rail replacement transport has been recruited as follows:
05:58 Bolton to Blackburn - Atlantic Travel
06:48 Blackburn to Bolton - S Line
Journey times will be extended by up to 30 minutes as a result of using rail replacement transport. Coaches cannot access Entwistle stations, so customers are advised to contact 0333 222 0125 to arrange onward taxi transport.
Additional information:
Following routine work taking place by Network Rail staff in a tunnel overnight between Bolton and Blackburn, debris has been found on the railway lines. As a result, all lines through the tunnel are closed until staff can gain access to the tunnel to inspect the nature of the debris.
