What has happened?
There is a broken down train near Sheffield disrupting trains on the Liverpool / Nottingham / Norwich and Sheffield / London routes.
The operator of the freight train have advised they are unable to fix the train and a rescue train will be required. They advise this rescue train will have to come from Doncaster. They are expected to arrive for 15:45.
How does this affect my train?
Trains running through the area in the Chesterfield direction may be diverted between Sheffield and Chesterfield delaying trains by up to 30 minutes on the Sheffield / London route.
Trains running through the area in the Sheffield direction can run normally between Chesterfield and Sheffield on the Sheffield / London route.
Trains on the Liverpool / Nottingham / Norwich route will not be stopping at Sheffield and run direct between Stockport and Chesterfield.
At present we are expecting the problem to be fixed in the next 90 minutes. As soon as the problem is fixed the priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect the advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 16:15.
How do I get where I need to be?
You should continue to travel as originally planned however your journey may be delayed by up to 60 minutes.

Northern tickets will be accepted on East Midlands Railway services between Sheffield and Nottingham at no additional cost. Please note these services are also disrupted.
TransPennine Express
TransPennine Express tickets will be accepted on East Midlands Railway services between Sheffield and Manchester / Liverpool at no additional cost. Please note these services are also disrupted.
