A number of incidents between East Croydon and Littlehampton are causing disruption to train services running between these stations.

Trains may be delayed by up to 20 minutes. Disruption is expected until 18:00.

Customer Advice:

Speed restrictions and signalling problems are causing disruption on the following parts of the Southern, Gatwick Express and Thameslink networks:

East Croydon - Gatwick Airport

Trains may be delayed in both directions when travelling through Earlswood, which is between these stations. A speed restriction of 20mph has been put in place due to the effects of the hot weather.

This disruption will mainly affect the lines used by non-stop trains between London Victoria/East Croydon and Gatwick Airport, but some trains on the route via Redhill may also be affected. Please leave around 15 minutes of extra time.

Three Bridges - Haywards Heath

Some trains have been delayed when travelling from Three Bridges towards Haywards Heath due to a signalling problem on one of the southbound lines. Your train may be up to 5-10 minutes late after travelling through this area. However, the signalling problems have been resolved at this location.

Littlehampton / Barnham - Worthing

Trains may be delayed by up to 5-10 minutes when travelling from Littlehampton or Barnham towards Worthing due to a signalling problem in the Angmering area.

Advice for your journey:

Please check a journey planner for the next departures before you go to the station, and leave extra time. You can still use your normal route, but if this changes, we will update this message.

Can you tell me more about the incidents?

Between Earlswood and Salfords, a 20mph speed restriction has been put in place to prevent issues with the track caused by the hot weather. The restriction affects both of the "Fast" lines used by express services.

At Three Bridges and Angmering, we have had reports of problems with the track circuit equipment. Track circuits are electrical devices which detect and monitor the passage of trains. When they fail, trains cannot be allowed into each area automatically, but drivers must instead gain verbal permission to continue (usually at slower speeds). This leads to congestion.
