A person has been hit by a train between Cambridge and Ely. Whilst the emergency services carry out their work, all lines between these stations are closed. Trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

Disruption is expected until 18:00.

CrossCountry customer advice:

To help you complete your journey today, your ticket will be accepted on the following services at no additional cost:

  • Greater Anglia via any reasonable route
  • Great Northern via any reasonable route
  • LNER between London Kings Cross and Peterborough
  • London Underground via any reasonable route
  • Thameslink via any reasonable route

Greater Anglia customer advice:

Greater Anglia will be supporting the emergency services and Network Rail where they can. In the meantime, please allow extra time for your journey.

Routes affected:

  • Stansted Airport - Norwich

Alternative travel options:

  • Great Northern and CrossCountry are accepting Greater Anglia tickets via reasonable routes
  • Greater Anglia have a very limited rail replacement bus service operating between Cambridge North and Ely
  • Customers can travel via London Liverpool Street where possible

Further information:

  • Advance purchase tickets holders will be allowed to travel on earlier or later trains if their booked service is cancelled

Great Northern customer advice:

Trains are unable to run between Cambridge and Kings Lynn. If you are travelling between these stations now, you will need to use an alternative mode of transport to reach your destination.

If you have not yet started travelling, Thameslink advise that you delay travelling until later today.

Great Northern will have a shuttle train service running between Kings Lynn and Ely but these are limited and will be busy.

Ticket acceptance is in place on the following alternative routes:

  • CrossCountry between Ely and Peterborough
  • East Midlands Railway from Ely to Peterborough
  • Greater Anglia from London to Cambridge and Ely to Peterborough
  • London Underground between London Liverpool street and London Terminals
  • Stagecoach buses: 12 and 9 between Cambridge and Ely

At additional cost, you may use:

  • First Excel between Peterborough and Kings Lynn
  • Lynx bus route 37 between Downham Market and Kings Lynn

Please allow yourself an extra 90 minutes for alternate travel.

If you are travelling from London towards Cambridge, Thameslink services will still be running but will be delayed so please allow an extra 30 minutes to your journey.
