With many customers choosing to travel over the Easter period, some Grand Central services are expected to be busier than usual. The graphic below shows services we expect to have seats available, and those which seat availability will be limited for customers without seat reservations, including flexible tickets.

Useful tips for Easter Travel

Check your tickets for seat reservations

Advance tickets include a seat reservation. If you have an Off-Peak or Anytime ticket, check your confirmation email or paper tickets for reservations. If you cannot see any, don’t worry, but be sure to visit this page at grandcentralrail.com/easter where you’ll find the latest information on seat availability. We recommend avoiding any service which is marked red, as seats will not be available- consider travelling earlier or later in the day to ensure you have comfortable journey.

Pack Smartly

To help make your journey easier, luggage racks are available at the end of most carriages for large suitcases. Smaller items such as backpacks and satchels can be placed in the overhead racks. Please remember trains have limited luggage space on-board, so travel light if you can.

On-board space is limited, so customers are permitted up to two large suitcases and one small bag per person - if you are travelling with more than this, you may not be able to board the train.

Find your seat before you board

Our handy seating plan helps you find your seat quicker- you’ll find them at grandcentralrail.com/seatingplan .

So that everyone can move around the train safely, please fold prams and pushchairs prior to boarding.

Flexible tickets

For the following ticket types:

  • Grand Central Off-Peak Single or Grand Central Off-Peak Return
  • Grand Central Anytime Single or Grand Central Anytime Return

We strongly advise customers without seat reservations to travel on services marked green, to improve the comfort of your journey.

For tickets marked Any Operator/’Any Permitted’ including:

  • Super Off-Peak Single or Super Off-Peak Return
  • Anytime Single or Anytime Return

Customers with tickets marked ‘Any permitted’ are valid for applicable Grand Central, Hull Trains, LNER, Northern, TransPennine Express and East Midlands Trains services.

To ensure a comfortable journey, customers are strongly advised to check services available with alternative operators.
