This is expected until 09:00.
Customer Advice for Avanti West Coast:
To help complete your journey, you may use London Northwestern Railway services between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central in both directions.
Customer Advice for Southern:
An Avanti West Coast service has struck a large piece of wood in the Kings Langley area, between Hemel Hempstead and Watford Junction.
This train is now being held at Watford Junction station, leading to congestion. Because of this, some Southern services in this area may be delayed.
To reduce the congestion, some of services towards Hemel Hempstead may also finish their journeys at Watford Junction, returning towards London from there.
This means you may need to change trains to complete your journey.
We don't have an exact estimate for the delay, but your journey could be extended by up to 10-20 minutes.
Your ticket will be accepted interchangeably on Southern or London Northwestern Railway services between Hemel Hempstead, Watford Junction and the London area.
London Northwestern Railway and Avanti West Coast services are also disrupted.

Can you tell me more about the incident?
Southern are working with Network Rail and other train companies to establish why the windscreen of the 06:16 London Euston to Edinburgh service was damaged as it travelled through Kings Langley. The investigations have found that a piece of wood has been hit by the 04:57 Wolverhampton to London Euston service, operated by Avanti West Coast. The train which hit the piece of wood has suffered suspension damage, and is now held at Watford Junction. This is leading to congestion as other trains use different lines to get round it.

Can you tell me more about the incident?
A signalling fault known as "route locking" is causing disruption to your journey in this area.
This part of the network uses track circuits to detect the position of trains. These are electrical systems which monitor whether a train is on a section of track. Track circuits operate as part of the signalling system, which is designed to be "fail safe".
When a track circuit fails, the signalling system will interpret this as a train remaining in place, even though there may not be a train present at all, or the previous service may have long since left the area.
In the case of track circuits at junctions, this means the points cannot be moved, as there could still be a train present. As a result, the junction will become route locked. The junction will then only be able to be used for trains running on the route which was selected when the system failed.
Until the track circuit clears, it won't be possible for your train to pass the area as usual, and if the route is locked, it may mean your train cannot reach its normal destination.
Network Rail staff are attending as quickly as possible to resolve the fault and make sure all of the affected trains can move. We're closely monitoring progress updates. Thank you for bearing with us.

Can you tell me more about the incident?
A points failure has been reported, and this was preventing trains from travelling through Peckham Rye towards London Bridge. Some trains are now moving, but there are still delays in the area, and some possible service changes.
Points are moveable sections of track which can send trains onto different routes at junctions. These are part of the signalling system, generally managed by Network Rail.
Points can stop moving correctly for a number of reasons. For example, there may be an obstruction in the moving parts, or the electronic control systems may have developed a fault.
There are various backup systems which allow signallers to try to "set" the points, and in some cases, the points may be available for trains in one of the directions they serve, but not another. However, with more severe failures like this one, the route is blocked entirely.
Network Rail have sent their specialist Signalling & Telecoms teams to site as a priority, and they will set up a safe method of working on the track. As soon as it's safe to go on the line, they will diagnose the fault and find any quick solutions to resolve it.
Whilst this is being done, we will be monitoring progress closely. At times, replacement parts may be needed, or specialist advice from suppliers, which is why some points failures take longer to resolve than others.

At present we are expecting the problem to be fixed in the next hour. As soon as the problem is fixed the priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect the advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 14:30.
