  2. Change the country drop down to reflect where you are from
  3. Enter your address accordingly

If you are registering from the United States or Canada, be sure you have selected the Correct State or Providence in the drop down or you will run into problems later in the booking process.

How do I reserve a seat?

Online Seat Reservations

For all Advance purchase fares booked on our website our system will automatically reserve a seat free of charge. For Anytime fares the site will ask whether you want a seat reserved. This is in case you have not made a decision on when you want to travel or would prefer not to be tied down to a particular train.

We are not always able to reserve seats. This could be because:

  • The train services you are traveling on do not offer seat reservations. e.g. if it is a short journey.
  • The train on which you wish to travel is full at the time of booking.
  • The train company may not have released seat reservations yet. This is done up to 12 weeks ahead of travel.

Even without a seat reservation your tickets are still valid and you can sit in any vacant unreserved seat for the appropriate class of travel for your journey.

Reserving a Seat After Making a Booking

A seat reservation can be requested up to 2 hours before travel by calling our customer support team on 0371 244 0216. Alternatively you can visit your local station and arrange a reservation. This is subject to the Terms and Conditions of the ticket and availability is not guaranteed.

Do I have enough time to transfer between trains?

We only display tickets with estimated transfer times already taken into consideration.  The times we use are based on recommendations by the rail industry and are individually calculated for each station. If you feel a longer transfer time is required then you might want to consider a different departure time or booking each stage of the journey individually.

How do I know a booking was successful?

A confirmation e-mail will be sent to your registered e-mail address. This confirmation e-mail could be used to reclaim expenses. The booking will also show in the 'My account' section of the site if you are a registered user.

Is the ticket price quoted for all travellers?

Yes, the total price will be shown for all travellers.

Can I take a break in my journey?

Whether you are allowed to break your journey depends on the ticket type. In general the more flexible tickets such as Anytime, Off-Peak or Super Off Peak tickets allow you to break your journey. If you possess one of these tickets you may start, break and resume or end your journey at any intermediate station along the route of travel - unless the ticket restriction for the journey you are making does not allow it.

If you have an Advance ticket, you may not start, break and resume, or end your journey at any intermediate station except to change to/from connecting trains as shown on the ticket or your travel itinerary.

The terms and conditions of each ticket type can be viewed when making a booking.

What trains can I use my ticket on?

Whether you can travel with a different train company to the one you hold a reservation with depends on the terms and conditions of the particular ticket you purchased.

Prior to your departure you should check the terms and conditions of your ticket online or with a member of staff at the station before you board the train.

Why are the train times on my Underground ticket incorrect?

You do not have to be on a scheduled train on the Underground so we simply print suggested times only.

Why are my reserved seats not grouped together?

If you have booked more than one ticket our system will always try and group seats together. If your seats are not grouped together then either:

  • The train is full, only limited availability left
  • The ticket types don't match
  • Two separate bookings were made independently of each other.

On many long distance routes there are usually non-reservable carriages so you may be able to find seats together on the day of travel.

I have lost my ticket what should I do?

Please note that train companies do not accept responsibility for lost or mislaid tickets. How do I reserve a place for my bicycle?

We are unable to reserve bicycle places on our trains through our website.  If you would like to travel with your bike, please check with the Conductor before boarding and you will be directed where to place you bike for the journey.  Please give yourself enough time to locate the conductor and load your bicycle before the train is scheduled to depart.

On our 180 train services we have a total of 3 bike spaces which can be found in the front carriage of the train.

On our HST train services we can carry a total of 4 bikes. There are 2 spaces on both the front and last carriages.

If you have a folding bike, you can carry these as normal hand luggage.
