How to claim your complimentary Grand Central ticket

Claiming your Grand Central complimentary ticket is quick and easy. You can use it for any Standard Class Grand Central Advance journey calling at London King's Cross, and with bookings available up to six months in advance, there's plenty of availability. With your tickets, you'll still enjoy all the ordinary benefits of Grand Central travel, including connections to your local station, free Wi-Fi and modern, refurbished train carriages.

Your step-by-step guide to redeeming your complimentary journey

  1. Choose your ticket using the "Search and Buy" panel above. It'll have to be a Grand Central journey, so make sure to check our timetables page to find the train you want.
  2. Pick your Grand Central ticket - make sure it's an Advance.
  3. Choose how you want to receive your ticket - if you are only getting one ticket, you must select e-ticket or postal fulfilment, you cannot collect at the ticket vending machine.
  4. Enter your discount code (formatted as "GC100-XXXXXX") at the checkout.
  5. Verify that the 100% discount has applied.
  6. If you are redeeming a single complimentary journey, you will not be required to provide any payment details. Simply select your journey, enter your discount code, and receive your journey.

Redeeming and using your code - FAQs

My code isn't working

If your 100% discount code isn't working, there may be several reasons for this, including:

  • The code has expired - they are valid for six months from date of issue
  • The ticket you have selected is not valid
    • Only Grand Central Advance tickets are valid. Flexible Grand Central tickets and tickets for other operators cannot be discounted
  • You are trying to book an incorrect class of travel
    • Complimentary discount codes begining "GC100" are only applicable on standard class journeys

Why can't I select ticket vending machine?

If you're only fulfiling a single ticket, we do not take any card details. This means that you will not be able to provide a card against which the ticket vending machine can check when you go to collect your tickets. We recommend choosing to get your tickets via e-ticket, so you'll get them straight away and for no extra cost.

Why can I only travel to/from London?

Only Grand Central Advance tickets are available for 100% discounting, and these tickets are only available on routes serving London. If you require complimentary travel on a route not serving London, please get in touch with our Customer Relations department at 0345 603 4852 (option 3, then option 1), who will be able to help you.

We only allow complimentary travel on Advance tickets to ensure you have a comfortable journey - these tickets guarantee seat reservations, meaning you won't have to worry about finding somewhere to sit on the day of travel.

What if I have several valid tickets in my basket?

If your basket contains more than one Grand Central Advance ticket, the cheapest one will be discounted. This also applies to journeys where multiple legs are present (eg. a return journey comprising two Grand Central Advances).

Can I redeem multiple codes at once?

No - if you have multiple codes to redeem you will need to do this through multiple transactions.

    • Grand Central complimentary tickets are only available through grandcentralrail.com or the Grand Central app
    • Complimentary tickets are subject to availability so may not display for all journeys and/or times. If there are no tickets available for your selected journey please select a different time or an alternative date.
    • Complimentary tickets will only be valid on Grand Central services and will not be accepted by other train operators.
    • Complimentary tickets are ordinary Advance train tickets with associated restrictions.
    • If part of your journey is with another operator then you must buy another ticket for that part of the route.
    • Grand Central complimentary tickets can be used for Adult or Child travel.
    • Grand Central complimentary tickets are only valid on the date and time printed on the ticket. Changes to travel plans are not possible.
    • Break of journey is not permitted.
    • The code/s you were sent are to be used to book complimentary tickets and are unique to you - so please ensure you keep them in a safe place.
    • Codes can only be issued once. Grand Central will not take responsibility for any lost codes.
    • Please note that the code provided can only be used once for one transaction.
    • The booking made with the code is for one person only and must be completed in one transaction.
    • The code is valid for redemption for up to 12 months from the date of issue.
    • Grand Central complimentary tickets cannot be used in conjunction with Weekend First upgrades.
    • The Website Terms and Conditions apply when booking your complimentary tickets.
    • The National Rail Conditions of Travel apply to travel on all Grand Central trains.
    • Grand Central reserves the right to withdraw the code, complementary tickets or amend these terms and conditions at any time without notice and without liability to you. No cash or other alternative will be provided.
    • The cash redemption value of this voucher is 0.001p.
    • By accepting the code you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
    • Grand Central accepts no liability for any damages, losses, liabilities, costs, injuries or disappointment suffered as a result of using the complementary tickets or the code.
    • These Terms and Conditions are governed by English law.
