Celebrating Herriot Country Day at Kings Cross Station
Tuesday 6th June will be ‘Herriot Country Day’ at Kings Cross Station when the World of James Herriot and the Herriot Country Tourism group presents 'Welcome to Herriot Country'

A team from The World of James Herriot, Grand Central Rail and Herriot Country Tourism Group will be descending on Kings Cross London on Tuesday 6th June for an event that will celebrate the author James Herriot (Alf Wight OBE) and to promote Herriot Country for holidays and short breaks.
An exhibition of Herriot Country in North Yorkshire with ‘Flavours of Herriot Country’ will be held on Kings Cross concourse for the whole of the day, including morning and evening commute times.
The exhibition will include exhibition pieces from the World of James Herriot, a selection of local ‘Flavours of Herriot’, including Yorkshire Ice Cream from Brymor Ice Cream, a selection of Herriot Country craft beers from Nick Stafford’s Hambleton Ales, plus, Yorkshire and Harrogate Blue artisan cheese samples from Shepherd’s Purse Cheese. Information about Herriot Country Tourism group members, holiday options and details about the area in general and leaflets encouraging short breaks in Herriot Country will be distributed.
“This is a fabulous opportunity to let Londoners and travellers at Kings Cross know directly more about Herriot Country and how easy it is to reach by rail and especially via Grand Central whose service stops at Thirsk and Northallerton in the heart of Herriot Country and North Yorkshire. We are very grateful to Grand Central Rail and Network Rail for their generous support of this initiative,” said Ian Ashton, managing director of the World of James Herriot and chairman of the Herriot Country Tourism Group.
In addition to the Herriot team, the entourage will include representatives from Thirsk ‘Yarn Bombers’; a group of 300 people who knitted and crocheted and under the cover of darkness cloaked the town with creations for the Tour de Yorkshire.
The alliance will demonstrate to Londoners and travellers passing through Kings Cross the many benefits and reason for visiting Herriot Country in North Yorkshire.

“We are delighted to be working with Grand Central to share the good news about Herriot Country. We will also be encouraging people to learn about the James Herriot Foundation Trust, which provides support for veterinary nurses.”
The recently launched James Herriot Foundation Trust aims to provide bursaries for veterinary nurses. The Foundation Trust was established in 2015 following the installation of a statue of Alf Wight OBE (James Herriot) in the gardens of the World of James Herriot, Alf Wight’s former home and surgery in Thirsk. Jim Wight and Rosie Page, son and daughter of Alf Wight (James Herriot) are Trustees.
